Frances St Press is a not-for-profit indie publisher of arts and social science cross-disciplinary inquiry, founded in 2018 and run by Ashleigh Watson.
The flagship publication of Frances St Press is So Fi Zine (ISSN 2209-3028), a sociological fiction zine that aims to open and creatively extend the promise and craft of sociological imagination. The zine publishes short stories, poetry, visual art and other creative works that are products of or inspired by social science research. Edition #5 launched in June 2019. Submissions for Edition #6 are currently open and the edition will be published in late 2019.
Frances St Press is also the home of the AKE Zine – an interdisciplinary zine of critical feminist arts/research from the Affect, Knowledge and Embodiment: A Critical Feminist Arts/Research workshop series. The first volume of AKE zine was published in November 2018, and the second in July 2019. The third edition will be released in November 2019, following a workshop at Australian National University.
Another linked project is Algorithmic Micropolitics – a collaborative zine made at UNSW, Sydney, with the Vitalities Lab.
Frances St Press is committed to providing a platform for openly accessible, innovative works of cross-disciplinary inquiry that creatively bridge the divide between art and social science. Coming works will explore queer digital archiving, and personal digital data.
